Cold and Warm

December 15

A snowstorm had blown in overnight. The Chelsea boys arrived at 9 Lambert on Sunday morning. Karine was cold but soon warmed up with Paola’s afghan, a cup of tea and piano playing. Bill wore a cosy vest. The boys had fun playing. After a warm lunch, Kirk and Karine left to do some Christmas shopping.

Samuel and Grandpa made some reindeer cookies and the whole house smelled good.

Sam said it was too cold to go outside. Barbara convinced him double mitts and socks would keep him warm. Helping Grandpa shovel was also a good warm up.

Then we went for a walk to find Santa. Sam pulled David along in a sleigh – this warmed him up more!

The boys were very interested all the snow plowing and snow blowing activity.

Soon we arrived at Santa’s sleigh.

Then we spotted a big polar bear, so Sam visited him too.

Back to a warm fire and some Christmas stories.

Maman and Papa returned. After supper, Sam, Barbara and Grant played with some “Christmas” cards. David played the piano.

It was a happy way to end our day together.

Grandparents' Day at Montessori School

Dec 9, 2013

Grandpa and Barbara braved a winter storm to drive to Chelsea for their invited visit to see Sam at school.

The children sat in a circle while Samuel introduced  them to his grandparents.

Then they broke off to work on individual activities of their choice.  Grandpa and Barbara pitched in to help with the play time.  Samuel worked on the carnivore/herbivore animal set and also the small bead placement with tweezers, getting up to 14 placed on the pink base.  Barbara helped some other children with their tasks.

Each child, in turn, took time out to make a Christmas centrepiece.

Before long, another set of grandparents arrived and it was time for Sam to say goodbye.

First Ski of the Season

Dec 2, 2013

An unusual snow storm in late November had left about 15 cm of fluffy snow - perfect for an early season ski.  Grandpa call Sam and invited him and David to go skiing at P10 with Maman.  They had to go in the morning, because Grandpa had an appointment in the afternoon.  Fortunately for all of us, Grant decided to come too, as we sure needed his pulling power.

We brought some poles, but Maman did not think it wise to use them.  David was asleep in the Chariot while Grant pulled him.  Sam went by himself up the Fortune Parkway.  After a while, Sam was encouraged to hold on to the back of the Chariot while Grant pulled.

Sam tired of this so we decided to try the tow bar and rope which Grandpa had brought.  Sam did not find this enjoyable either.  Returning was suggested, but Sam really wanted to get to Keogans.  So after some negotiation, he got into the Chariot with David, and Grant pulled them both the rest of the way.

We had  quick lunch at the lodge, while Sam watched the maintenance man ride his Skidoo.

After lunch, Maman put both boys in the Chariot for the ride back.  David was not pleased, and let everyone know.  At the top of the big downhill, Sam jumped out and put on his skis.  Grandpa and Grant each took a hand and they zoomed to the bottom of the hill by the parking lot.

While Maman put the now happy David in his car seat, Sam tried pulling the Chariot himself.  What a great day.  And Grandpa even saw some old friends on the trail.

Grandpa and Grant Babysit David

Nov 26, 2013

David's daycare was closed for the day, so Grandpa & Grant came up to Chelsea to babysit.  Karine had already left for work when they arrived at 7 am, and Sam was ready to head out to Montessori with Papa.

David and Grandpa played with blocks while Grant swept the snow off the deck.

David then played with Grant, racing from one toy to the next until he got sleepy around 9:30.  He went down for a 2.5h nap without complaint.

When he got up, we changed him and gave him his lunch.  More play time until Maman arrived home.  It was a fun day.
