As Christmas was on its way, Uncle Grant, Barbara
and Grandpa delivered the boys’ Advent calendars and Grandpa’s large moose
cookies. It was also an opportunity to
meet their new puppy, Max, who is half border collie and half doodle. He and
Molly quickly became fast friends.
Soon we were all off on a hike to the
Cascade Club on the river along the former rail bed. The first stop was an exploration of the
culvert at the corner of Pine Road. The boys
were throwing a ball in one end and picking it up at the other.
We headed down Pine Road to the river, and
went along the rail trail. The boys
played a game to see who could throw a ball the farthest. Of course, the ball rolled down to the river,
but Molly and Sam retrieved it. Meanwhile, David decided to walk along the top
of the fence.

We came to an even larger culvert that
begged to be explored.
At the Cascades Club, we checked out the
dock and the ball ended up in the river.
Molly bravely jumped in to retrieve it.
On the way back, the boys played on some
stairs, seeing how many steps were needed to jump down.
Then, another dog came along – it was Max’s
big sister! David continued walking
along the top of the fence.
We said goodbye to the river, and returned
home checking out the culvert again.
