Happy Celebrations

July 30, 2021

July 30, 2021 was Barbara’s 75th birthday and Kirk and Karine’s 10th anniversary.  We celebrated together at Church Hill Falls picnic site off the Eardley-Masham Road in the Gatineau Hills.  We had the picnic area (3 tables) to ourselves and a large grassy area for playing ball.  It was a lively celebration. Grandpa was busy heating Chinese food on his Coleman stove (with help from Molly). The boys played Frisbee and baseball. Then it was time to gather for dinner, followed by more ball and then dessert – celebratory cakes – chocolate mousse with a sparkler and hidden coins for the anniversary and Grandpa’s special raspberry cheesecake with candles for the birthday.  The anniversary family selected cycling motif mugs from youngest to oldest and Molly got a large bag of treats.  Barbara was happy to get a North Face windbreaker, a bottle of Bowman maple syrup and a coloured birthday card from the K&K family.  Time for a rest for Grandpa and more baseball for the boys. After packing the cars, everyone agreed to have a short hike to the Churchill Falls.  Kirk decided to explore a rough path beside an old fence heading up the cliff.  David headed straight for a large vertical rock slab and began to climb. It was challenging but soon Sam and Grant tried too.  Then it was time to go home as the sun was setting…

The Cardinals Win One!

 July 29, 2021

Following up on their last good game, the Cardinals again played well.  They were short a player, so called up Emily from the B league to play.  She did very well, catching a pop fly, hitting safely, and scoring.  Sam was great offensively and also pitched two scoreless innings. The team built up a good lead, but then got sloppy towards the end of the game and let the Champions get close.  They expected the umpire to call the game as it was getting late, but he decided to carry on since there was still a minute left before 8:15.  The Champions continued to press with the winning runs on base.  But with two out, Sam shut them down with a great catch of a long fly ball to centre field. Phew!
