Papa is 35

Sunday September 13, 2015

It was a rainy day so we decided to celebrate Papa's birthday at the Meredith Centre arena in Old Chelsea. Samuel got to be a pretty good skater on Ross' rink last winter so he was eager to test out his skates again. Today would be the first try for David on real skates (borrowed from his friend Levi).  - no more bob skates for him.

Samuel was soon happily zooming around.

David started out with a  skating aid but after a short time was taking little steps on his own... Bravo David!

The zamboni was a big hit too.

We watched a real hockey game for awhile.

Then we headed home for Papa's birthday party - pizza and a yummy chocolate birthday cake.

Samuel Starts School

Tuesday September 1, 2015

On Monday Samuel and Maman visited l'ecole du Grand-Boisé for an orientation session and to meet his teacher, Chantal.

Samuel was only at school a few hours on Tuesday morning so Grandpa, Barbara and Grant looked after him the rest of the day. As Papa wanted to pick him up on his "first day" he decided to pick up David at the Montessori school/daycare too. We all met there late morning, handed the kids some snacks and headed for home while Papa returned to work. We made a quick stop to return a canoe to Christiaan, with Sam's help.

Barbara took a few "posed" photos of Sam with his backpack.

We had a picnic lunch together and Grant gave the boys a ride in the wheelbarrow.

While David had his nap, Grandpa took Sam to Wakefield for an ice cream and a hike. Sam noticed some deer footprints in the sand.

David got up and showed off his swinging style.

When Sam arrived home, Maman did too. And Stella and Ross came over to play. Three happy kids starting school this week.

Grandpa's Birthday and More

Thursday August 27- Friday, August 28, 2015

Papa was called in to work on Grandpa's birthday so we picked up the boys and Boots to take them to the cottage. Papa was planning to join us there for supper and to stay the next day too (Maman had to work). Grandpa got some neat presents from Sam - a big "Canoe" lure and a cardinal solar light.

David had a good playtime with Grant before he got dressed.

Samuel showed us his new school knapsack and all his school supplies (his first day of school is next Monday).

On our drive to the cottage, Barbara stopped at the Wakefield Bridge so Grandpa could  case out a canoe run for the Venturers with Sam's help.

Then we arrived at the cottage - after a stop for slurpies.

While David had his nap, Sam made some birthday doughnuts (Pillsbury biscuit dough) for Grandpa.

When David woke up, he played while Grant read Sam a Garfield comic.

Then the boys patiently waited for some popcorn to pop.

It was beach time. Sam checked out Grandpa's boat ladder. Everyone enjoyed the water.

Papa arrived when the boys were back at the cottage. We had a late birthday steak dinner - complete with doughnuts!

Then - sparklers!

Finally it was time to join Lambie and Lambie's brother for a good sleep.

The next morning, David finished his breakfast  and checked a minnow while Sam enjoyed a game of Garfield.

Then the boys went fishing - Grandpa soon had a fish to clean.

We cooked the fish for lunch over the fire - and we had a fire cooked dinner for supper too. Then it was time for the boys to get into their pjs and head for home and Maman.
