July 30, 2020

On their way home from the cottage, Grandpa, Grant and Barbara joined the K&K family for a super dinner of Quebec Unibroue beer, lake trout and raspberry cheesecake on their front deck… the photos speak for themselves…

Paddling the Coulonge River

July 24, 2020

The Bowman boys had an exciting 3-day white water paddling trip with their parents on the Coulonge River near Fort Coulonge/Ottawa River.  When Grandpa and Barbara met them at the -Terry Fox Bridge, their take out point, they were celebrating a successful trip.  Grandpa and Barbara shuttled Papa’s car back from their put in point. It took a little longer than estimated for the shuttle to the bridge as Grandpa explored some possible put in points (no car) on back country trails before finding Papa’s car parked on the main road close to their put in at Chutes EnragĂ©es  It was good to get together at the bridge and to see everyone in high spirits.  We had a picnic lunch together.  Then it was time to portage from the river up to the road and get all the canoeing equipment packed.

As our group was close to Chutes Coulonge Historical Park, everyone agreed we would check the story of the logging era.  We all learned a lot about the challenges of logging the river. And it was exciting to watch a lady cross the raging river on a zip wire. The museum at the end was very interesting as the boys could touch and handle the logging tools.  Sam captured a wood frog. Finally, we saw a few young people on an aerial trek. What a visit!
