A Quick Visit

Thursday, June 28, 2022

Grandpa, Barbara and Grant stopped at K&K’s house for a visit on their way home from the cottage.  Karine was at work but we had a good visit with Kirk, the boys and the menagerie.

The boys gathered a dozen eggs for Grandpa.  After a snack, everyone, including Molly went outside.  The maple syrup equipment was getting ready for summer storage, Sam showed his new bating practice net (it works really well), David did some jumping, Molly watched the action, and Sam caught some “escaped” chickens. We talked about our summer activities and Kirk’s recent boating adventure in the low water of the Gatineau River.

Holiday Time

Thursday, June 23, 2022

School is over… This was Sam's Grade 6 class.

Grandpa and Barbara picked up the boys at 8am and Papa left for work.

They stopped at Lemieux Island on the way to 9 Lambert. This was a lot of fun! Although there had been some recent showers we decided to check out the pond. The boys discovered frogs and goldfish, checking out their findings with magnifying glasses.

They explored the area around the pond and spotted some birds including robins, a female American Redstart and female red winged blackbird. Grandpa pointed out several walnut trees  and a pile of broken walnut shells.

Then climbed up to the road with views of the many birds on the Ottawa River islands.  The shad flies had just hatched.  Some walnuts were developing.

Then it was off to Mud Lake. Not too many new birds here today but we did enjoy our ice cream cones at Beachconers.

We finally arrived at Grandpa’s house where the boys watched two wrens feed insects to their young in the backyard birdhouse.

Everyone pitched in to make lunch.

The boys enjoyed a lively game of Saboteur + with Uncle Grant.  And then the boys spent some more time playing lively games on their tablets with Uncle Grant as an interested observer.
