February 9-11, 2018
Friday, February 9
The Nepean Bowmans and the Chelsea Bowmans were getting
together for an outdoor weekend at Val David. We were staying at the Village
Suisse, Luzerne Chalet. It was large enough for all of us. The boys had bunk
beds in their parents room. Friday evening we had snacks and a game. Sam made a
cardboard harness for his husky “Husk”. Karine
had made a delicious lasgna (Sam’s favourite food) and we all enjoyed our
supper together. Karine went for a walk to find the hot tub. She said it wasn’t
far so the boys headed out – and they loved the outdoor tub.
Saturday, February 10
On Saturday morning the boys decided to try the Val David
skating rinks early in the morning. Papa drove them there, about 1 km away. After skating, Papa and David drove back for a
hot breakfast and Maman, Sam and Boots walked back. They took a shortcut over
the snow-covered lake behind our chalet. It was a beautiful sunny morning with
fresh snow. We had local bakery bread delivered to our chalet mailbox this
morning. Then it was time to make lunches for our cross-country ski trip.
Karine helped the boys make some paper airplanes and then it was time to head
out with our skis for fun in the snow. We stopped at the Village Suisse
Registration office to get our free ski passes for the Val David-Val Morin ski
trails.
We skied to a lodge for lunch. There was a lot of uphill, so
David needed a pull part of the way. We all enjoyed a rest and lunch, then
headed back to the trail start. Barbara, Grandpa and Grant took a longer route
back.
Now we all had a lot of fun on the curvy sliding track.
Late afternoon we returned to our chalet – the boys went back
to the hot tub and Barbara and Grandpa enjoyed a cozy fire.
The boys helped Barbara make a chocolate Valentine’s brownie
cake. Then it was time for our cheese fondue dinner.
Sunday, February 11
Sunday the boys decided they wanted to do “black diamond” on
the steep cross-country trails. The Swiss Chalet receptionist agreed to keep an
eye on Boots for us. Barbara and Grandpa snowshoed up Mt. Condor. After
snowshoeing, Grandpa skied to meet the boys returning from the big hills. Soon
we were all together again.
The boys took a few sliding runs then asked to go skating.
So off we went to the Val David rinks until it was time to head for home. Quite
an action-packed weekend!
