Maman had been busy preparing a surprise party with friends
for Papa’s 40th
birthday on Sunday. She had booked time at the “Escape” adventure for
the four of them in the afternoon. While
they were away Grandpa, Barbara, Grant and some neighbours prepared for a surprise
party at their house. It was a rainy day
but miraculously the rain stopped when the set up team arrived. Grandpa erected a tarp shelter. Barbara set up the balloons and confirmed
with Henny next door that visitors could park in her driveway. Another neighbour,
Laura and family were a big help with the set up, bringing tables, a vegetable tray
and some snacks from Karine. Grandpa set up his coffee perc and Barbara organized
the drink coolers. Friends Henk and
Jodie and family arrived with a shelter and an amazing birthday cake made by their daughter, Fenna.
Pets joined in the fun – Misty, Boots and the tiny Reubin
(Henk’s family).
More friends arrived and chatted while the kids played. The birthday family arrived and soon became
part of the activities.
The kids soon discovered the chickens which were very
popular.
Trampoline jumping and rope climbing were also a lot of fun.
Pizza arrived and was popular – Karine had ordered several varieties
to suit everyone’s tastes. Fenna’s chocolate
cake was a big hit – everyone checked it out to see Kirk’s camping/canoeing
activities. Kirk and Maya share birthdays
this week so they both blew out candles on the cupackes.
Karine had hoped there could be a campfire, so when the guests
left the Bowman family started a fire which we enjoyed together as it got dark.
Then Kirk opened his family “fishing” gifts. And it was time to say “good night”….
