A 10 Year Old

January 26, 2020

January was a big month for Samuel.  He had dental surgery to remove an extra tooth.
Samuel's dentist discovered that his second big tooth could not emerge because it was blocked by another new tooth in the upper gum - this was an extra tooth.  So, now the extra tooth has been removed and Sam will have braces for awhile.

In the meantime, he seems to be as active as ever, enjoying some challenging cross country and downhill skiing. He and David enjoyed Sam’s 10th birthday party on January 26 with friends at XQuest Archery in Ottawa (good choice for a bowman!). After their shooting event, they had pizza and birthday cake.  Then the boys came home to build a fort in the snow with Papa and their friend Ross.

Sam came in for a drink and to open Grant’s present. As it will take some time to build his new model motor, he decided to put it aside for another time.  He enjoyed showing Grandpa his other birthday gifts.

Our family enjoyed a birthday dinner together. Thanks for preparing it Papa!

After supper Sam wanted to test out the new hockey pads Ross had given him. The boys had good fun skating on Ross’s rink. It was a beautiful snowy evening.

Grant’s Birthday

January 5, 2019

It was Sunday, Grant’s birthday.  The Chelsea Bowmans dropped in for supper after a trip to the climbing gym in Kanata – quesadillas and pineapple “cake” (plus chocolate roll).

Snowy Owls +

January 3, 2019

It was the boys’ last vacation day before school started. Grandpa decided it would be a good day for birding. David started the day with making a birthday card for Grant while Sam and Grant played a game on the computer downstairs.

Then Grandpa decided it was time for a birding trip.  No luck spotting the partridges in Kanata but David enjoyed sliding – very muddy!

We had better luck with the snowy owls.  And we saw a few crows.

We all enjoyed lunch at Tim Hortons.

Then our final birding stop was at Hampton Park on Island Park Drive in Ottawa.  It was fun to hike the trails – not too many birds, just a few starlings and chickadees.

On the way home, we stopped at cousin Bruce’s house.  The boys loved working to divert the water in a large puddle at the bottom of the driveway.
