February 1-2, 2020
Two years ago, the Bowman family had spent a fun weekend enjoying
winter sports at Val David. So, they
decided to go again for another weekend.
Luckily the weather was mild and the snow conditions were excellent.
Everyone gathered again at the Village Suisse Chalet Luzern for
two nights. On Friday night the boys enjoyed testing out the elliptical which
was in Grandpa and Barbara’s bedroom. After dinner – lots of cookies! - the boys started a game of RISK.
Saturday morning, David was keen to check our mailbox as the
local bakery would deliver a fresh loaf of sliced artisanal bread which we
could have for breakfast. They would put the flag up on the mailbox to tell it
had arrived. It was right on schedule! We
all enjoyed toast with our breakfast. Then it was time to check out the hot
tub.
After dinner the boys were keen to play some pick up hockey
on the local rink. It was fun! David even got a turn as goalie and Sam scored a
goal.
Of course, we all had a good sleep after an active day in
the fresh air. A pair of deer on the
lake greeted us on Sunday morning.
Today would be a hiking day.
The boys tested out the sliding hill by the ski lodge. Then we put on our
grippers – Papa rented a pair of snowshoes for David and we started our big climb. The boys had fun making their own trails and testing
their climbing/sliding on the big rocks.
The made it the top of the escarpment for an amazing view of Val David
below. Even Boots made it up the steep trail. The boys had a good snack.
Then they were eager to find the ice caves. So much fun!
Note: On an earlier hike that
morning they had found a wallet containing credit cards and the driver’s
licence of a woman from Montreal. Papa had
left her a phone message through her credit card company, and he got a call
from her during the hike. They agreed to meet at Starbucks in Saint Jerome on the
way home to return it. All went well.
After we descended, the boys enjoyed some more sliding and
we had a pleasant break in the lodge. Then they went for more hockey before heading home.
