A Second PD Day at 9 Lambert

Friday, October 29, 2021

It was fun to have a second PD Day in October, this one just before Hallowe’en. On the drive to 9 Lambert, David spotted an arm hanging out of the back window of the car ahead of us.  This motivated us to check out the house in Leslie Park that was covered in Hallowe`en inflatables and lawn decorations.

The boys were now in the mood for Hallowe'en. They started their day at 9 Lambert by building an Oreo Cookie spooky house kit.  They worked carefully and were pleased with their creation. Then they played their usual computer games with Grant.

For lunch, Grandpa barbequed some hamburgers and David baked some fries in the oven. Dessert was joe louis cookies. Right after lunch we all headed out to Arlington Woods to check out the “bike path” created by some cyclists, weaving its way through the forest area where the 2019 tornado struck.  The boys zoomed along the road on their scooters but found the bike path more challenging. It was fun.

The boys came back on the official path and scootered over to the bridge at the Bruce Pit where we saw a heron, black ducks and hooded mergansers in the pond. Then we spotted a mallard and a teal in the creek.

It was a muddy trail back to Trend-Arlington.  A red meadow hawk dragonfly caught the boys’ attention.

When we returned to 9 Lambert, we cleaned up our muddy shoes and then the boys helped Grandpa put his deck chairs away in the shed where they would stay until spring.

Then it was time for the boys to meet Papa at The Mill. On the way Grandpa stopped at Bate Island on the Champlain Bridge, as he was hoping to spot a Razorbill and a Barrow’s Goldeneye. No luck but the boys had fun throwing leaves into the fast-moving water.  Also, it was interesting to see a couple painting a mural under the bridge.
